The first thing to understand it that there is no such thing as permanent hair removal, only permanent hair reduction. This is because, our bodies are completely covered with hair. Most of that hair is too fine to be seen. For example, I am one of the fortunate people who have barely visible hair on their arms, whereas my husband looks like he’s wearing a sweater year round. The truly unfortunate thing is that there are laser clinics out there that tell you they can get rid of ALL of your unwanted hair, regardless of skin tone, follicle colour or thickness. The good news is, whatever your situation, there is a laser that can provide better and more permanent results than plain waxing, threading, etc.
For example, the LightSheer Diode can effectively remove or ’reduce’ hair especially when the skin is very fair and the hair is very dark and coarse,( however the skin does not have to be fair.) Like myself, I’ve had three underarm treatments and haven’t shaved in four years. The energy from this laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle and effectively kills the follicle so it can’t produce new hair. Therefore, having dark, coarse hair with fair skin provides optimal results.
Then, of course, for tanned skin or lighter, finer hair, there’s a laser called the SoftLight. This is a non-permanent laser which is primarily used to treat fine facial hair or men who have finer hair covering their back or who are too wimpy to take the LightSheer treatments (like my husband – look for his SoftLight video coming out soon – REALLY). The benefit of the SoftLight is that it CAN be used on tanned or darker skin, the hair instantly turns blonde, the skin often feels smoother, and the effects of the hair removal last longer than the more conventional methods of hair removal like waxing or tweezing.
